WWDCD? What Would Dave Chappelle Do?

by Editor on January 28, 2010

While I was working out this morning (not because I care what I look like but because my life is so great I want to enjoy it forever!) sportscenter was on and I saw on the ticker that Gilbert Arenas has been suspended for the season.

I had to stop running. Not out of shock but because I started laughing at the Dave Chappelle skit that would certainly be following this colossal lapse in judgement. Since Dave himself decided to deprive us of his comedic talents, I’ll do my best to recreate one of my favorite skits of his, and insert Gilbert into the starring role.

WHEN KEEPING IT REAL GOES WRONG:

Gilbert Arenas is playing cards with his teammates. Over a few games, he begins to run a pretty big debt with one of them. Javaris Crittenton, knowing that Gilbert makes a GIANT salary, begins to question his teammates’ lack of payment. It goes from jovial jokes to the point of threats.

At this point, Gilbert has a choice. He can; A) no matter the size of the debt,  wait two weeks at the very most for one of his GIANT paychecks to arrive and thus be able to write Javaris a check and pay off the debt. OR B) He can “keep it real”

Gilbert chooses to “keep it real” by bringing not one, not two or three, but FOUR guns to the arena. During yet another argument Gilbert decides to pull one of his guns on Javaris. This is not only in violation of  an NBA rule he has previously been suspended for, but also a CIVIL law that requires a gun to be legally licensed. This prompts Javaris to bring his OWN gun out, which results in a stand off “real gangsta” style.

Gilbert and Javaris have been suspended for the remainder of the season. This means that by “keeping it real” these two have forfeited the rest of this season’s salary, as well as the ability to practice and travel with the team. If money was tight for either of these two before, then it’s about to get tighter. The Wizards are considering voiding the rest of Gilbert’s $111 contract, which still has 4 years left. This means that in all, Gilbert may cost himself over $80 million in order to “keep it real.”

Radio eo eo eo

by Editor on January 26, 2010

So glad the Jayhawks beat the Tigers last night! Always good to win the border showdown. Went to West Franklin Middle school yesterday and spoke to the 6-12th graders. We shared some stories, had a few laughs. I told them to work hard in school or you wind up living in a van down by the river.  Good times!

Going on the radio today as opposed to Thursday. Why? Because Joel Branstrom, a fellow Jayhawk from the 1997 team, hit a half court shot blind folded! Hit my twitter page and the link to the video and his espn interview are on there. Or click here.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJdmlKf36ZY

I wanted to be in on the local interview, so I switched with Bud, and now I am in. (1320 am or KLWN.com 4-6 central, and 7-8 for bonus network show.) It will be a hard hitting interview. I always say that, because I like saying hard hitting interview. It just sounds tough. Since I don’t get a lot of physical action nowadays, (my wrestling with giants on a bball court days are over) I like the things I do to sound as tough as possible. Like, I went to the grocery store today, and I carried all of the groceries in one arm with my son in the other. Never mind “groceries” were a pack of gum, and “son” was just some little kid I found in the store. (btw, if you are missing a “kid”, I’ll bring him to the radio station with me today and you can pay me for my babysitting services)

So, yeah. That’s it. Oh wait. yep, lost it. That’s it.

What should I say on the radio today?

Cold weather

January 7, 2010

It’s cold in the midwest. Or as Brick Tamland would say, the mideast! We are coming out of an ice age. That’s science. This planet constantly changes, I’m not arguing that. What I’m skeptical about is our impact on it.
Are we affecting our OWN environment? Possibly. If we over extend our reliance on natural resources, [...]

Dallas and L.A.

December 9, 2009

Here’s a recap of my weekend in Dallas and Los Angeles last weekend. When the Rock Chalk Sports talk radio show planned this weekend, Kansas football looked like they had a good shot at getting to the Big 12 football championship game, and a UCLA-Kansas matchup looked like a big time game on national TV.
Well, [...]

Hey Kids!

October 25, 2009

Back from a weekend in Indiana. Had a blast. Kids had a blast. Wife had a blasty-blastertons! (her term, not mine) Anyway, saw Paranormal Activity. Wow, what a waste of my hard earned retirement dollars! It was Blair Witch Project remixed poorly and less scary. OY, can’t we hold the advertising for movies responsible in [...]
